Intense heat is expected across Maryland Sunday

The second day of AFRAM is shaping up to be much hotter than the first. High temperatures peak in the upper 90s for the first time this year. Sunday will be very similar to what it felt like on the second day of AFRAM last year. Baltimore reached a high temperature of 101° on Sunday, June 22nd, 2024 .

When you factor in the humidity, it may feel as hot as 105°. Humidity increases by early evening. It'll be especially muggy after Sunset Sunday. The chance of a cooling storms remains very low. But, a rogue storm is not impossible. If a storm manages to develop, it'll produce lots of lightning, gusty winds and small hail.

If you're traveling up the I-95 corridor, the risk of storms is greater north of Maryland Sunday afternoon and evening.

Baltimore temperature records may be broken next week

Monday and Tuesday will be the hottest days. Temperatures soar to near 100° both afternoons. It will feel as hot as 110° in a few spots both days; especially during the late afternoon and early evening.  Temperatures soar back into the upper 90s Wednesday, with even more humidity around. It'll feel just as hot. Several afternoon high temperature and morning low temperature records are at risk of being tied or broken.

  • Remember pets and the elderly in the heat

In preparation for the unusually hot weather, Baltimore City's Health Department is declaring its first 'Code Red Extreme' Heat Alert. The alert begins Sunday and runs through the middle of the week. A list of available cooling centers is listed on the city's website.

Heat eases late in the week

The First Alert Forecast remains hot, but not as hot, late in the workweek. Afternoon temperatures peak in the 90s Thursday and Friday afternoons. It will still feel a few degrees hotter than that. However, there will also be more cooling showers and thunderstorms around the Mid-Atlantic, offering some further heat relief.
