Missing man found safe after search in Fox Lake
A man who was reported missing in Fox Lake was found safe on Tuesday morning.
Fox Lake police said a 25-year-old man was reported missing around 12:20 a.m., and friends had received a message that "he was emotionally distressed and possibly heading towards the water" in Mineola Bay.
Lake County Sheriff's officials said their marine unit and local fire departments assisted in the search, using drones, boats, and sonar, before suspending the search around 4 a.m.
Around 9:30 a.m., Fox Lake police said a 9-1-1 caller reported finding the missing 25-year-old man in his backyard.
Officers then responded to Crab Apple Island, a small residential island in Fox Lake, and confirmed the man was safe. Police took him back to his family, and he received a medical evaluation.
Weekend water emergencies
There were 12 water emergencies, including one death, over the weekend. First responders are now calling for more funding to assits with water rescue efforts.
At 63rd Street Beach, rescue crews are searching for a man fire crews said fell off a boat and is still missing. At the Playpen a man was sent to the hospital in serious condition after he hurt his foot in the water.
At Navy Pier, a 27-year-old fell off a boat and was later located by the U.S. Coast Guard, about a mile and a half offshore. They pulled her from the water, but she later died at an area hospital.
On Sunday, fire officials said a boat caught fire with at least 20 people on board. No one ended up in the water, and no injuries were reported.
