CTA Blue Line trains are back to normal service Friday afternoon after a man died at the Grand Avenue stop during the Friday morning rush.

Chicago police said a 28-year-old man fell onto the tracks and made contact with the third rail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical emergency and ensuing police activity shut down Blue Line service between the Damen-O'Hare and Racine for hours starting at 5 a.m., effectively stranding many commuters trying to get from Wicker Park to the Loop during the morning rush.

Trains were back up and running with delays shortly after 8 a.m., and continued to bypass the Grand station for several more hours. CTA provided shuttle buses between Chicago and Clark/Lake to make up for the service interruption until all train service was restored Friday afternoon.

Police have not released any further information about the man who died.
