SACRAMENTO — A woman died after being pinned by her own car against a parked vehicle in the Pocket area of Sacramento, police said Tuesday.

It happened just before 6 p.m. in a parking lot of a Bel Air grocery store along Rush River Drive.

Sacramento police said officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. Officers learned that the woman who died appeared to have been the person operating the vehicle prior to it pinning her.

First responders declared her dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified her as 36-year-old Sacramento resident Linda Angelica Tracy, with the initial classification of her death being from a motor vehicle accident.

Two minors were passengers in the woman's vehicle but were uninjured, police said.

Sacramento police are still investigating what caused the collision.

Tracy's family released a statement Wednesday calling her an "exceptional mother and friend, who constantly put her family and community first." The statement continued:

"She never hesitated to do difficult and thankless work for others. She spent her time on earth taking care of other people, especially her children and extended family, serving as a Girl Scout troop leader, fundraising for the kids' schools, taking the kids to soccer and swim, birthdays and play dates. She ran a tight ship at home and loved nothing more than planning the next family adventure.  Linda was soft spoken, but fierce - the type of person you want in your corner in tough times. She would do anything to protect the people she loved."

An online fundraiser was created to support the family.
