Multiple vehicles near Happy Park in Yuba City vandalized

The Sutter County Sheriff's Office said nearly two dozen cars were vandalized early Saturday morning in South Yuba City, near Happy Park.

About 22 vehicles were vandalized near Portola Valley Road, which runs between Lincoln Road and Harbor Town Drive.

Deputies said they believe it was two or possibly three juveniles.

"Why? Why are you out at 3 in the morning and why are you messing things up that people worked so hard for?" said Tiana Carter, who lives on the street.

Carter said she and her husband's cars were two of the 22 that were hit. They replaced the truck's tire that was slashed, but it will be a fortune to fix the paint from the keying. Carter said her insurance quoted her $9,000 to $12,000 per car.

The Sutter County Sheriff's Office posted home security video showing two boys – one kid jabbing at a truck's back left tire as the other tampers with the white car parked closest to the camera.

Carter and other neighbors want accountability after they woke up to their cars keyed, tires slashed and items they kept inside their cars sprawled across the street.

"These were our Christmas presents to each other and to have them only a couple of months after we put so much time and money into it," said Carter. "It's heartbreaking."

Down the street, another home security camera gives you a different view of the kids, where you can hear one of them yell "c'mon, c'mon" as the other rummages through an unlocked car.

"It's just upsetting to see the neighborhood we grew up in and loved is starting to change and not feel so secure anymore," said Pete Johannsen, whose work truck tire was slashed.

He said it cost him $500 to replace. He and his partner Meshelle Faramarzinia are planning on pressing charges and are confident someone will recognize these kids.

"Where are the parents?" said Faramarzinia.

They hope the kids' parents will learn a lesson, too.

"Do better," said Faramarzinia. "Teach your boys hard work. These are hardworking families."

Anyone with information is asked to call them at 530-822-7307, the sheriff's office said.
