One person dead, another hospitalized after four homes in Duquesne go up in flames
Flames engulfed multiple homes and left one person dead, along with plenty of damage, in the City of Duquesne early on Thursday morning.
What began as a fire at one home spread to three others and the original home that caught fire is now nothing but rubble.
The fire was so intense that the heat could be felt a block away and lit up the sky at 1:30 a.m.
"It's really hurting me right now, I don't want to cry, but I've never experienced a fire like this," said Juanita Jennings.
In addition to one dead, three others were taken to the hospital.
"A big fire and a very sad, unfortunate outcome for both the family and the fire department," said Duquesne Fire Chief Frank Cobb.
Jennings' house was among those damaged, sustaining water damage.
"I just moved in there in September after being homeless for two years, and on Saturday would be two years [since] I survived a coma," she said. "Now, I have to deal with this."
Chief Cobb said that, fortunately, Jennings' home should be able to be renovated.
Along with the Duquesne Fire Department, Allegheny County and West Mifflin were on the scene.
