A Philadelphia police car hit a cyclist as they were trying to pull over another car believed to be connected to a shooting in Nicetown, investigators said on Monday.

The crash happened on the 700 block of Spring Garden Street just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. According to police, the officers had their vehicle's lights and sirens on as they tried to stop a silver Honda CR-V on the 1900 block of West Allegheny Avenue.

Investigators said the Honda CR-V was believed to be connected to a Nicetown shooting that happened on the 1600 block of Juniata Street.

The police car was driving eastbound on the 700 block of Spring Garden Street when the Honda CR-V they were following went into the bike lane. Authorities said the police car then "made contact" with a cyclist and then hit another car in the process.

The Honda CR-V that police were trying to pull over then fled the scene, according to police.

Investigators said the cyclist, a 68-year-old man, was brought to Temple University Hospital for minor injuries and is said to be stable. No other injuries were reported, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3181.
