Family, friends gather to remember mother killed in Boom Island Park shooting
Relatives gathered Tuesday evening to remember a young woman who was gunned down at a popular Minneapolis park.
Stageina Whiting, 23, was shot and killed at Boom Island Park on Sunday night. Six other people were hurt.
Friends and family paid tribute to Whiting, who, according to an online fundraiser, leaves behind an 8-month-old girl. The page states that Whiting was a caring, loving, and hardworking young woman who attended school and worked overnight shifts to provide for her child.
"It's a tragedy that my daughter gone from senseless gun violence," said Whiting's father, Darnell Robinson.
Whiting's daughter will now be in the hands of loved ones.
Her father said details from police, including suspects and motives, are limited.
Robinson now has an online fundraiser, hoping to raise funds to lay his daughter to rest.
"She ain't have no problems with anybody out here. She's a caring mother, worked, went to school, just stayed out of trouble," said Robinson.
Minneapolis park police officers say they arrived to a very chaotic scene of at least 100 people. Minneapolis police Chief Brian O'Hara says investigators believe there was more than one shooter.
Police say they don't know what led to the shooting, and no one has been arrested.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board says police will be at Boom Island Park from 8 p.m. to midnight every day starting Friday through June 22.
