Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding across South Florida through Tuesday
The NEXT Weather Team has issued NEXT Weather Alert through Tuesday due to the potential for flooding across South Florida from scattered showers and storms with heavy downpours.
NEXT Weather Chief Meteorologist Ivan Cabrera said the latest high-resolution estimates suggest possible heavy rain focused directly over the Miami-Dade metro areas, with localized amounts of 5-6 inches through Monday evening.
A flood advisory for Miami-Dade through 6:45 p.m. Monday was allowed to expire.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has placed Broward and most of Miami-Dade under a marginal risk of severe weather. Heavy rain with strong wind gusts, lightning and hail is possible. Broward and Miami-Dade counties are under a level 2 risk of excessive heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
A severe thunderstorm warning issued early Monday afternoon for northern Broward and southern Miami-Dade has expired.
NEXT Weather meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said on Monday, most of the rain activity will occur between noon and 10 p.m. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.
On Tuesday, the most active period will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Highs will be near 80 degrees.
Miami Beach has opened it's municipal parking garages to all residents wishing to keep their cars out of flood-prone areas. Residents may park vehicles in the garages at no cost through Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. Proof of residency when exiting the parking facility is required. The garages at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Drive), 5 Street & Alton Road (550 Lenox Avenue), and City Hall (1755 Meridian Avenue) are not included.
On Wednesday, the chance of rain is 70% with showers and possibly thunderstorms. Afternoon highs will be in the low 80s. Winds will be out of the southeast around 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
The chance of rain will decrease late week due to Saharan dust on the way. On Thursday and Friday, there will be a more typical rainy season pattern with scattered storms.
On Thursday, there is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy, with highs near 85 degrees. Friday will be partly sunny with showers, some thunderstorms are possible.
The weekend will be mostly sunny, with a 40% chance of rain on Saturday and a 30% chance of rain on Sunday.
