Driver arrested after 3-year-old boy killed, twin sister and mother hurt in Livonia hit-and-run
A Michigan woman was taken into custody after a 3-year-old boy was killed and his twin sister and mother were critically injured in a hit-and-run on Sunday in Livonia, Michigan.
The incident occurred near the Livonia Spree festival area, around the time the crowds were leaving the festival.
The Livonia Police Department said that the 28-year-old mother from Detroit and her two children were crossing Merriman Road at Lyndon Street at about 10:46 p.m. Sunday when they were hit. Witnesses pulled the children off the street, police said. Officers immediately provided first aid and took the children to a nearby hospital, where the boy died from his injuries.
The Livonia Fire Department transported the mother to a hospital. The girl and the mother remained in critical condition on Monday.
Police said the driver took off after the incident. In an update on Monday, Livonia police said the vehicle was located in Mt. Morris and a 47-year-old woman was identified as the driver. The woman was taken into custody.
An investigation is ongoing.
