Missing 82-year-old Ann Arbor man found safe, police say
An 82-year-old man who was missing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been found safe on Wednesday after a 48-hour search, police say.
Ralph Yang was last seen about 7:15 p.m. Monday when he went for a walk in the area of Pin Oak Drive and White Oak Drive, . But he didn't return home.
He has Parkinson's disease and was considered a "missing endangered adult," the police department said.
Community members who are interested in volunteering for search groups were asked to meet at 1:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Forsythe Middle School. There were 60 volunteers participating in the afternoon search, and over 200 participating in the evening search party, police said.
The effort "was a true testament to how strong our community is and how we look after each other," police said on social media.
Police say Yang was found at about 9 p.m. by Ben Osenbaugh in the 2500 block of Newport Road. They say he was able to communicate with people before he was taken to the hospital.
"This was a challenge, I mean, he was upright. He was somewhat responsive, and now he's getting medical treatment," said Ann Arbor Police Chief Andre Anderson. "This is community policing. It's a way that the community can work in concert with the police to help resolve issues, and it worked."
Osenbaugh, who lives nearby, found Yang in a creek. He said he walked along a trail that he was familiar with and located the man.
"I feel really good. I'm thankful and I'm hopeful that he is going to be OK," Osenbaugh said.
