Police standoff ends at Whitmore Lake home; 1 person in custody
A domestic dispute overnight Tuesday that led to a barricade situation in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, ended nearly 12 hours later with the suspect surrendering Tuesday afternoon.
Northfield Township Police Chief Martin Smith gave an update via shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, saying police had resolved the incident peacefully and that one subject was in custody.
The circumstances started around 3 a.m. on a report of a domestic call near 6 Mile Road and Main Street, the police chief said. The woman had been forced into a vehicle at that location, according to initial reports.
The vehicle drove to a home in the 8400 block of Nollar Road, and after what the chief described as "brief negotiations" with officers, the woman left the house. She was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
But the man refused to leave and barricaded himself inside the house.
Due to the circumstances, police requested the assistance on-site of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office crisis negotiation team and tactical unit.
