Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for several counties in Northern Illinois over the course of the evening Thursday.

One such warning was issued at 7:39 p.m. for Lake County and eastern McHenry County, and was in place until 8:15 p.m.

The storms were passing over Cary, Volo, and Antioch at 7:39 p.m., and were moving north at 30 mph.

The storms brought torrential rain and dangerous lightning in the areas of Libertyville, Wauconda, Round Lake Beach, and Third Lake.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was also issued for Porter County and east central Lake County in Indiana. The warning was in effect until 9 p.m.

Earlier, parts of Kendall, Will, Kane, DuPage, and DeKalb counties were placed under a warning for a storm that involved 60 mph winds, 0.75 inch hail, and a tremendous amount of lightning activity. 

There were numerous reports of tree limbs and power lines down in Kane, McHenry and Lake counties in Illinois, and a few more in Northwest Indiana.

Another storm system was coming toward Chicago area Thursday night — set to hit the western suburbs around 1 a.m. But this system was expected to fall apart, bringing only some gusty west winds and a little rain.
