2 killed, 21 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

At least two people were killed and 21 others were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Saturday. 

The ages of the victims range from 11 to 63.

Shootings from Friday 

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 36-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 400 block of North Wells Street shortly after 7 p.m. when he got into a fight with another unknown man, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the left arm.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 2:03 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Washington Boulevard, a 21-year-old woman was a passenger in a vehicle when she got into an argument with another woman, who pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim. The victim went to grab the gun and was shot twice. She was hit in the chest and suffered a graze wound to the stomach. The shooter exited the vehicle and left the scene. Fire crews arrived on the scene to treat the victim and took her to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition. 
  • At 2:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of South King Drive, a 34-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he heard gunshots and began to run away. He then realized he was shot twice in the left foot. The victim did not know where the gunshots came from. He was treated by fire crews and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 3:04 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Fifth Avenue, two men, 25 and 21, were standing by the entrance of a housing complex when an unknown person fired shots, hitting both. The 25-year-old suffered a graze wound to the forehead. He was treated by the fire crews and taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition. The 21-year-old was hit in the right leg and taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition. 
  • At 2:30 a.m., in the 2300 block of West Roosevelt Road, three victims were standing on the sidewalk when a black SUV pulled up and three armed men exited and began shooting at them. The offenders then returned to the SUV and fled the scene. Fire crews arrived on the scene to treat a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman. Both were taken to Stroger, where they died. A 25-year-old man self-transported to Rush with a gunshot to the ankle in good condition.  
  • At 5:24 a.m. in the 100 block of East 93rd Street, officers responded to a call of a person shot and found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 7:15 a.m. in the 3600 block of West 5th Avenue, two men, 21 and 26, were standing near the sidewalk when they were struck by gunfire from an unknown person. Both victims were hit multiple times in the body and self-transported to Stroger in good condition. 
  • At 4:10 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Western Avenue, a 33-year-old man was on the sidewalk when he was shot in the right leg by an unknown person. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
  • At 5:28 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Tripp Avenue, an 11-year-old boy was in a park when he was shot in the lower back by an unknown person. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 9:09 p.m. in the 9700 block of South Commercial Avenue, a man, 35, was struck in the back by gunfire. He was taken to U of C Hospital in good condition.  
  • At 10:47 p.m. in the 12000 block of South Harvard Avenue, a man, 26, was near the sidewalk when he was struck in the leg by gunfire. He was taken to Roseland Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 11:33 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue, two teens, 17 and 18, were on the sidewalk when they were struck by gunfire from an unknown person. Both were hit in the leg and were taken to U of C Hospital in serious and fair conditions.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 1:15 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Gunnison Street, a 25-year-old man was inside a vehicle when he was approached by an unknown person who pulled out a gun and fired shots. The victim was hit in the finger and taken to Community First Hospital in good condition.
  • At 4:09 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue, a man, 63, was inside a residence when he was struck by gunfire from outside. He was hit in the head and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. 
  • At 4:10 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Throop Street, a 16-year-old girl standing near the sidewalk was struck in the leg by gunfire from an unknown person. She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. 
  •  At 4:40 a.m. in the 400 block of North Hamlin Avenue, officers responded to a residence at the above address and discovered a 39-year-old woman with a gunshot wound in the arm. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 8:34 a.m. in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street, a 32-year-old man standing near the sidewalk was struck by gunfire from an unknown person. He was hit in the leg and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
  • At 5:25 a.m., an 18-year-old man self-transported to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park after being shot in the chest in the 5100 block of West Thomas Street in the South Austin neighborhood. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

Shootings from early Monday morning

  • At 2:20 a.m. in the 8400 block of South Muskegon, a 28-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he heard gunshots, felt pain, and realized he was shot in the right thigh. He self-transported to U of C hospital in good condition. 

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
