More than a dozen people were taken to the hospital after a large shuttle bus crashed into an apartment building in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened on Rowell Street. Dylan Ibanez was working in his apartment when he heard a loud crash.

14 people injured

"I was sitting in my office and I heard the bang," said Ibanez. "I walked into just the whole room full of white smoke from the drywall."

The crash left walls and windows shattered when the shuttle bus, from an adult day care center, crashed into the apartment. Boston EMS confirmed 14 people were taken to the hospital from the scene with minor injuries.

"By the time I came out, all the neighbors they were out helping the driver, who was a little banged up," said Ibanez. "Unfortunately, the bus was full of elderly people but thankfully got everyone off safely."

Ibanez's girlfriend, Sophie Abimerhi, was at work when the crash happened. She said she got a text with a photo of a bus in their living room and immediately rushed home.

"The front windows are pretty damaged, the wall right there, everything," said Abimerhi. "We're most thankful our little dog sits in the window, that was one of the windows that wasn't touched."

Ibanez and Abimerhi are hopeful the damaged can be repaired but the crash still has them shaken up.

"It's shocking. I think I'm still in shock, I don't really know how to process it," said Abimerhi.

There is no official word yet on what caused the crash.

"Super happy that everyone's safe and they were able to get off the bus," said Ibanez.

WBZ-TV reached out to Mentor Adult Day Health, the company who owns the shuttle bus, but they did not respond.
